Karolinska Institutet, Department of Women’s and Children’s Health
Do you want to contribute to better health for all?
Asthma care faces major challenges in measuring and predicting asthma deteriorations. Without robust and scalable individual-level prediction models, healthcare systems struggle to address health inequalities, advance research, and improve outcomes for all patients. In short, it is difficult to manage or support what we cannot measure.
The research group led by Björn Nordlund at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health is seeking a candidate interested in developing and validating prediction models for digital asthma care during the autumn of 2026.
The overall goal of this research is to integrate individual-level prediction models for asthma to improve digital asthma care. Machine learning models integrated into digital self-management systems may predict and prevent asthma deteriorations more effectively than traditional care approaches.
You will develop prediction models that forecast declines in lung function based on longitudinal patient-generated data. You will also have the opportunity to actively participate in an international collaborative research project involving Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), and the Mayo Clinic (USA).
To be eligible for this employment as a Research assistant, you must hold a Master’s degree in Mathematics with a specialization in machine learning. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled no later than the date on which the employment decision is made. Previous experience in digital asthma care is considered a merit.
A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world’s leading medical universities.
