The Dost group is looking for a motivated research assistant (RA) with experience in mammalian cell culture starting October 1, 2026 (flexible starting date). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to transition into a funded PhD position, pending performance and mutual agreement.
The recently established Dost lab aims to uncover mechanisms underlying lung regeneration and lung disease using primary human lung organoid models. Lung diseases are among the leading causes of death worldwide and understanding how lung stem cells respond to injury and disease is fundamental for advancing regenerative medicine. Our group develops and applies primary human alveolar and airway organoid models to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms of epithelial regeneration and disease progression. Our goal is to identify therapeutic avenues to restore endogenous lung regeneration in conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The Dost lab is part of reNEW, an international stem cell medicine consortium with nodes in Copenhagen, the Netherlands, and Australia. As part of this collaborative, cross-institutional environment, we have direct access to cutting-edge facilities and expertise, and opportunities to engage with a broad international network of stem cell and regenerative medicine researchers.
You will initially work on one or multiple projects involving the establishment of healthy and disease-derived primary human lung organoid lines, genetic engineering of lung organoids, in vitro modeling of extrinsic risk factors of lung diseases, and/or optimization of high-throughput drug-screening conditions. After the initial RA period of 12 months and upon positive evaluation and mutual agreement, you will get the opportunity to transition into a funded 3-year PhD position. At this point, we will decide together on a focused PhD project based on your interest and the preliminary data acquired during the RA period.
