Research Associate (Earth Science/Geophysics) Full-time

Research Associate Position

The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is an interdisciplinary school focusing on the connections between geosciences, ecology, society and Earth systems. Our approach integrates these disciplines to examine big hazards and environmental challenges both in Southeast Asia and globally. We conduct cutting-edge research on topics that include geohazards, climate change, sea-level rise, environmental sustainability, conservation of environment and biodiversity, and interactions between environment and society.

We invite applications for a Research Associate focused on the use of dense seismic arrays, particularly distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), for hazards and coastal monitoring.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Asst Prof Voon Hui Lai and contribute to cutting-edge research in seismic monitoring and hazard assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process and analyse dense seismic and fibre-optic sensing to support the detection and characterization of coastal, environmental, and seismic signals
• Engage actively with project team members, researchers, and external collaborators to advance research outcomes and project objectives.
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at national and international conferences
• Involved in mentoring and providing support to undergraduate students and/or Research Assistants, fostering a collaborative and productive research environment.

Job Requirements:

• MSc in Earth science, geophysics, or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in seismic source detection and characterization, distributed acoustic sensing, seismoacoustics, signal processing and/or environmental seismology
• Proven experience in the analysis and interpretation of dense seismic array data and/or distributed acoustic sensing
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or MATLAB.
• Demonstrated track record of publishing high-quality research in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
• As position requires stakeholder engagement in English, candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English
