We are seeking a motivated and skilled Research Engineer with strong expertise in geospatial analysis and spatial socio-ecological modelling to support a multidisciplinary project. The project “AI-Driven Sustainable Spatial Planning: Advancing Climate-Neutral Cities through Digital Innovation” aims to improve an AI-powered decision-support tool for reducing emissions in cities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in model development in Python. This involves improving and linking existing models written in different programming languages, finding, evaluating and processing data, implementing various techniques within machine learning and AI, and using GIS tools to verify and present results. The ability to integrate environmental data across multiple spatial and temporal scales will be crucial.
The role involves not only technical programming, but also requires the candidate to understand the model's real-world context and make decisions accordingly. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background and is willing to study and apply a variety of concepts within the modelling environment: potential topics range from nature-based solutions to traffic or flood simulation and LLMs. The candidate is also expected to contribute to writing and publishing scientific articles on the model and related topics.
