Research Engineering/ Scientist Associate I

The position will support multiple research projects related to gene editing, AI-guided protein engineering, and genome maintenance. The applicant will also perform some reporting, technical writing, and lab management duties. This position will end effective one year from start date. Subsequent annual renewal of employment will be based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding.

Responsibilities:

• Perform molecular biology experiments, purify proteins, and perform related assays to test their activity.
• Carry out biochemical, cell biology, and genetic assays, including screens of engineered gene editing enzymes and their inhibitors.
• Carry out tissue culture experiments.
• Prepare samples for next generation DNA sequencing.
• Help the PI write grants, manuscripts, progress reports, and other technical documents.
• Organize lab materials, regular lab clean-ups, electronic information (i.e., plasmid and strain databases), reagents.
• Assist graduate students in technical experiments; help new students integrate into the lab.
• Attends weekly group meetings and journal clubs to report on research status.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific field. Working knowledge of molecular biology techniques. Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally. Research experience in an academic or industry lab, or equivalent hands-on laboratory coursework. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in mammalian cell culture; using chromatography and electrophoresis systems; quantitative biochemistry; preparing samples for next generation sequencing. Coding in R or Python. Prior experience in lab management or organization.

Salary Range

$41,600 + depending on qualifications
