Research Fellow Position At The Luo Lab

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School's primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.

The Luo Lab, based at LKCMedicine, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore is seeking a highly motivated, goal-driven, and team-oriented Research Fellow to join our research program. Our research focuses on elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of RNA virus infection and host defense, as well as structure-guided antiviral development. We employ interdisciplinary approaches spanning biochemistry, structural biology, virology, and cell biology. The NTU Institute of Structural Biology provides outstanding infrastructure, including state-of-the-art facilities for high-resolution cryo-EM/ET, X-ray crystallography, NMR, and a wide range of complementary biophysical techniques. The position provides extensive opportunities for training in complementary methodologies, as well as for developing mentoring and teaching experience through close interaction with graduate students and supervision of undergraduate researchers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct independent and collaborative research in structural biology and/or RNA virus–host interactions.
• Design, execute, and analyze experiments using structural, biochemical, and cell-based approaches.
• Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant writing, and presentation of research findings.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students and actively participate in team-based research activities.

Key Competencies and Requirements:

• A recent Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field, such as structural biology (cryo-EM/ET, X-ray crystallography), virology, molecular biology, or cell biology.
• Prior research experience and hands-on laboratory training in one or more of the following areas: structural biology (cryo-EM/ET), cell biology, or molecular and cellular virology.
• Strong self-motivation, excellent organizational skills, and effective written and oral communication abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a diverse and interdisciplinary research team.
