We are recruiting an EDOL Research Fellow to undertake energy-demand research using data from the Energy Demand Observatory and Laboratory (EDOL), with a particular focus on residential energy use and the thermal performance of homes. As a core member of the EDOL team, the postholder will also help design, develop and deliver research-ready data resources, including robust processes for data quality, linkage, analysis and management. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across the EDOL research programme with colleagues at UCL and project partners at the Universities of Oxford and Exeter, and will engage with stakeholders including DESNZ, other government departments, industry and academic organisations. They will conduct and publish research, present findings, contribute to policy debate and support the development of future research activity.
This post is available from 1 December 2026 and is funded until 31 December 2027 in the first instance; further funding to support the post may become available.
UCL welcomes applications from international applicants and has licence to sponsor individuals who require a visa. This is dependent on the post and candidate meeting eligibility requirements for visa sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant field, or be close to completion, and demonstrable expertise in using smart meter data, with and without supplementary data such as internal temperatures, to characterise the thermal performance of homes. They will have strong quantitative data-analysis skills, including programming in Python, and will have completed Safe Researcher Training to become an Accredited Researcher under standard UK data protocols.
As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer some great benefits, some of which are below:
