Research Fellow in Solar Physics

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a research fellow to join the Solar Physics Group of the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory, MSSL), University College London (UCL). Research in the Solar Physics Group includes focusing on the physical process taking place in the atmosphere, in relation to CMEs, using a broad range of data. Including datasets collected by space instrumentation in which our group plays a leading role, in particular the Extreme Ultra-violet Imager onboard Solar Orbiter and the Extreme-violet Imaging Spectrometer onboard Hinode. The group also has a strong track record in solar research that combines our observations with theoretical and numerical analyses. This research position will focus on using multi-spacecraft observations, to track active regions during their lifetimes. This will enable a better understanding of processes that determine its eruptive and non-eruptive phases. Opening new windows in our understanding of eruptive activity and creating foundational knowledge that will be key for developing the ability to forecast CMEs ahead of time for space weather purposes.
