Research Fellow Opportunity at Frazer Institute

Join the Operational Research and Decision Support for Infectious Diseases (ODeSI) team at UQ's Frazer Institute and play a vital role in addressing some of the world's most pressing infectious disease challenges.

Supported through UQ's Health Research Accelerator Program (HERA), this opportunity offers the chance to work at the intersection of clinical, public health and global health research, collaborating with clinicians, epidemiologists, data scientists and policy leaders to deliver meaningful real-world impact.

As a Research Fellow, you will contribute to a collaborative, visionary and purpose-driven research environment where innovative thinking is encouraged, research translation is prioritised, and your work will help shape evidence-based policy and practice.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Research: Develop and contribute to a high-impact infectious disease epidemiology research program, conduct and publish high-quality research, seek and manage competitive research funding, collaborate on multidisciplinary research projects, and support the translation of research findings into policy and practice.
• Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise and mentor Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, support the development of researcher capability, provide coaching and performance feedback, foster professional growth, and contribute to a positive and inclusive research environment.
• Citizenship and Service: Build and maintain partnerships with industry, government and research collaborators, demonstrate leadership through mentoring and collaboration, contribute to Institute and University initiatives, support colleagues and operational activities, and uphold UQ values through active engagement and service.

About You:

• Completion of a PhD in infectious diseases, epidemiology, public health, global health, or a closely related discipline.
• A growing research profile with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international conferences.
• Demonstrated expertise in neglected tropical diseases, emerging infectious diseases, and/or vaccine preventable diseases.
• Evidence of contributing to competitive research funding applications and the successful management of research grants and collaborations.
• Experience supervising or mentoring Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, with a commitment to researcher development and fostering an inclusive research culture.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and industry or government partners to translate research into impact.
• Basic laboratory skills would be highly desirable.
