Research Fellow Position

The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is a robust, dynamic and multi-disciplinary international research community comprising of world-class scientists and bright students. We are looking for a Research Fellow to conduct research on additive manufacturing of advanced structural alloys. The role will focus on microstructural engineering and evaluation of mechanical properties under extreme temperature environments, with the goal of developing advanced materials for demanding applications. The position will also explore emerging data-driven approaches to support materials discovery and design.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research on additive manufacturing of advanced structural alloys.
• Design and perform experiments to evaluate mechanical properties under extreme temperature conditions.
• Characterize microstructures and analyze microstructure–mechanical property relationships.
• Apply data-driven methods to support materials discovery and optimization.
• Analyze research data, publish results in peer-reviewed journals, and support research proposal development.
• Supervise and mentor students involved in related research projects.
• Collaborate with research partners and support laboratory activities.

Job Requirements:

• PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong background in additive manufacturing, microstructural characterization, or mechanical testing of structural alloys.
• Experience in high-temperature mechanical property evaluation is desirable.
• Good understanding of microstructure–property relationships in structural alloys.
• Knowledge of fracture mechanics and experience with fracture experiments would be an advantage.
• Experience in artificial intelligence or machine learning approaches applied to materials research will be considered a plus.
