This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant network of researchers within the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford, to investigate the mechanisms underlying the development of neuropathic pain, a highly debilitating condition affecting approximately 9% of the population. The successful applicant will join the research team led by Associate Professor John Dawes, which focuses on the role of the immune system in pathological pain. Recent findings from the team have demonstrated that LGI1, a target of autoantibodies in neuropathic pain patients, plays a key role in regulating pain severity. Building on these discoveries, this project will explore novel mechanisms linking LGI1 to pain regulation using transgenic mouse models, behavioural assays, cell culture, and electrophysiology. Key responsibilities will include lab management, technical support and assistance with experiments (e.g. immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, confocal imaging), maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies, curating preclinical and clinical bio-samples and managing sample archives. Comprehensive training and support will be provided across all aspects of the project.
The appointed applicant would have a degree in a relevant scientific discipline, experience of working in a laboratory environment, as well as having the desire to learn new techniques and participate in collaborative projects.
The post is part-time (0.8 FTE) for a fixed term of 2 years. This is a fixed-term position for 2 years if the start date is on or before 1st December 2026. For start dates after 1st December 2026, the contract will be fixed-term until the grant end date of 30th November 2028. Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 21st September 2026 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
