Research Technician

We are looking for a Research Technician to assist in an MND Association funded project that aims to understand the role of redox signaling in motor neuron disease, using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as the primary model system.

The technician will be an active member of the research group and assist in executing the research programme in order to meet the overall objectives of the projects. They will work under the direct supervision of a senior researcher, funded on the same grant. As the projects progress, the post holder will be expected to work increasingly independently. The role holder will provide technical support by assisting with lab organisation, training of new lab members, performing experimental procedures, and analysing results. They will have experience of running experiments in a laboratory setting and knowledge relevant to the project's research area.

• The salary for this role is £36,433 (inclusive of London weighting), pro-rated for 0.9 FTE
• The post-holder will work 0.9 FTE, with either Tuesday OR Thursday afternoons off
• The post is available for 24 months in the first instance.
• This role is an open-ended contract with a funding for 2 years in the first instance

You will be highly motivated, willing and able to work effectively as part of a collaborative team, with a strong attention to detail and good communication skills.

You will have a degree in a Cell, Molecular Biology or Genetics related subject area and some relevant laboratory experience. Experience with Drosophila is desirable.
