Research Technician

We are recruiting a Research Technician to join the Spatial Transcriptomics Hub of the RLWT BRAIN programme. You will prepare frozen and formalin-fixed human post-mortem brain tissue for spatial transcriptomics and other experiments, support the delivery of histology and spatial transcriptomics workflows, and work closely with other staff in the Spatial Transcriptomics Hub to implement agreed sampling plans and experimental priorities.

This position will suit someone who seeks an opportunity to coordinate and deliver an exciting large multicentre research project, as well as an opportunity to make their own contribution to clinical research. You will be a member of Key Personnel and will assist with the day-to-day coordination of all team efforts to consistently maintain a high level of functionality and communication.

The post is available immediately and funded by The Reta Lila Weston Trust grant until 30 April 2028 in the first instance.

You'll have a BSc (minimum 2:1) in neuroscience, biomedical sciences, molecular biology, or a related discipline, coupled with practical experience of working in a laboratory environment with human post-mortem biological tissue and of preparing tissue sections from human-derived tissue using cryostat and/or microtome techniques. Experience of maintaining clear laboratory records and tracking samples and experimental outputs is essential, as are excellent communication, analysis, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to use your initiative and manage your workload and priorities to deadlines.

This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.
