We are seeking a motivated and organised Research Technician to support an international, multicentre digital pathology project investigating neurodegenerative diseases. Funded by the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), the project brings together brain bank collections, in partnership with the 10k Brains project, to advance research through the integration of digital pathology, clinical data and emerging AI-based approaches.
You will contribute to the preparation and digitisation of human post-mortem brain tissue, annotation of whole-slide images, and curation of associated clinical, genetic and pathological metadata. You will also support brain donor recruitment by working with clinical teams to provide information about brain donation and assist with consent and registration procedures in accordance with relevant legislation and Queen Square Brain Bank protocols.
This varied role offers the opportunity to develop skills across laboratory-based histology, digital pathology, data management and clinical research. You will work collaboratively with laboratory staff, researchers and clinical colleagues, with training provided where needed. The successful candidate will be adaptable, methodical and attentive to detail, with the ability to manage changing priorities across different areas of the project.
You will have an MSc in Neuroscience or a related discipline and experience of working in a clinical and/or basic research environment. You will have practical experience of histological techniques, excellent organisational skills and a meticulous approach to maintaining accurate records and handling research data.
You will be confident using IT systems, able to interpret data accurately, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be adaptable, able to manage competing priorities, and comfortable working collaboratively across laboratory, data and clinical settings. Sensitivity, professionalism and respect for confidentiality are essential, particularly when communicating with patients and families about brain donation.
