Department of Chemistry for Life Sciences – BMC
1 researcher position in chemical metabolomics
Department of Chemistry for Life Sciences conducts research and education in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and organic chemistry. More than 100 people, including around 45 PhD students, work at the department. New employees and students are recruited from all over the world and English is the main working language. The department is located at the Biomedical Centre in Uppsala, which facilitates collaborations with research groups in biology, pharmacy, medicine and SciLifeLab and gives access to advanced infrastructure for experimental and theoretical studies. The international environment and good opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations enables PhD students at the department to participate in relevant research projects and prepare for an international research career.
Project description
This researcher position for 8 months in chemical metabolomics for method development and biomarker discovery of liver and psychological diseases is available in the laboratory of Professor Daniel Globisch. Our research focus lies on the quantitative and qualitative metabolomics analysis of human samples for biomarker discovery of pancreatic cancer and other related diseases. As the microbiome is a crucial factor for disease development and modulation, we are also developing Chemical Biology methodologies for the targeted investigation of microbiome metabolism. Our team is currently searching for a highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic researcher with passion and enthusiasm for science to support our ongoing interdisciplinary research projects.
Duties
The researcher will develop chemoselective methodologies to investigate human and mammalian samples from liver and psychological diseases. The successful candidate will develop novel chemoselective probe tools, perform metabolite extraction from biological samples, UHPLC-MS/MS analysis, and statistical metabolomics analysis. Newly developed Chemical Biology methodologies from the Globisch laboratory will be applied to these samples to gain additional information from the microbiome metabolism. The researcher position will be 100% research.
Requirements
Additional qualifications
Scores from IELTS or TOEFL are desirable but not mandatory at the time of applying.
