Researcher in sediment biogeochemistry
The Department of Ecology and Genetics is an international environment with staff and students from all over the world. Our research spans a wide range of topics, from evolutionary ecology and genetics to ecosystem studies.
We are now looking for a researcher to work on a project focusing on organic matter in Baltic Sea sediments that serve as a source of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus to the water column, while also acting as a removal mechanism through permanent burial. The position is placed at the Limnology research program.
Duties: Compilation, evaluation and publication of data from recent sampling campaign from the Baltic Sea focusing on quantifying the release of carbon and the identification of bioavailable organic phosphorus pools in Baltic Sea sediments.
Requirements: PhD degree in Marine Biogeochemistry, or a related area. The successful applicant must have documented experience in evaluating carbon and organic phosphorus levels and quantifying the release of these elements from sediments into the water column, as evidenced by authorship of scientific publications. Expertise in marine biogeochemistry, sediment geomicrobiology, and stoichiometry is also required. The candidate should be an independent, flexible and well-organized person with excellent communication and project management skills. Candidates must be able to express themselves fluently in spoken as well as written English.
About the employment: The employment is a temporary position until 28 February 2027. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 11 May 2026, or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
