Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top universities. The University has around 46,000 students and 8,500 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain, and improve our world and the human condition.
The position is placed at the Division of Solid State Physics at the Department of Physics, a division with around 100 employees where extensive research is carried out centered on various aspects of nanophysics, ranging from materials science to bio- and quantum physics to various applications. The division is a central part of NanoLund, Lund University's large interdisciplinary research Centre on nanoscience and nanotechnology. The division includes Lund Nano Lab, a central and shared facility for the production of materials and components at the nanoscale. The Division has a strong commitment to undergraduate education, not least in the Master's programme “Engineering Nanoscience” at LTH.
Over the last twenty years, our research into the production of advanced nanomaterials consisting of nanoparticles produced by aerosol technology has been at the international forefront. We want to extend our research in this area by designing, building, and testing a new aerosol nanoparticle system, mainly with a view to applications in catalysis. A significant part of the position involves aerosol instrumentation.

The position primarily involves conducting and leading research within aerosol technology and nanoparticle synthesis. The researcher will play a central role in the development of advanced experimental methodologies and research infrastructure for the production of nanoparticle-based materials. The specific research project focuses on leading the design, construction, and testing of a novel aerosol nanoparticle system aimed at advancing aerosol-based methods for the production of nanoparticle materials. The main responsibilities include the design, optimization, and integration of aerosol instrumentation required to control aerosol formation processes. The work also includes the simulation, design, testing, and construction of a spark-discharge-based aerosol nanoparticle generator. The researcher is expected to take a leading role in the project, including planning and coordinating research activities, supervising doctoral and master's students, and maintaining active collaborations with industrial partners and international research groups. In addition to method development, the project includes research aimed at increasing the understanding of how nanoparticle properties influence catalytic performance. This work will involve nanoparticle characterization using advanced analytical techniques, including electron microscopy. The researcher will also serve as a resource within the research group regarding aerosol instrumentation, aerosol measurements, and aerosol processes, and will contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and competence development within the group.
The work tasks include:
