Scientific Computing Engineer for Quantum Algorithms in Chemistry Full-time

NQCP Quantum Computing Programme

NQCP is establishing a talented and diverse international team to create a cutting-edge quantum programme in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. At the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, where the formulation of Quantum Mechanics was born 100 years ago, we aim to establish an international quantum computing programme that will drive research and innovations at multiple levels – from developing scalable quantum processor technologies to solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications. The long-term mission of the programme is to develop fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and quantum algorithms that solve life-science-relevant chemical and biological problems.

Position: Scientific Computing Engineer

NQCP is looking for a motivated scientific computing engineer to head off our data-driven efforts in developing quantum algorithms. The role is anchored in the Algorithms and Applications section, where the role will be focused on enabling the co-development of algorithms and hardware within NQCP.

Responsibilities:

• Building out computational chemistry capabilities in the context of quantum algorithms
• Managing and possibly extending our in-house HPC cluster and working with our researchers to maximize its impact on our research and development projects
• Developing the data framework of the Algorithms and Applications section in collaboration with the NQCP data team
• Managing data aspects of projects across the section and regularly reporting on progress to the wider organization

Qualifications:

• Education: PhD in Chemistry
• Research experience within the field of quantum algorithms in chemistry
• Experience with the development of model Hamiltonians for chemical systems, such as the PPP model
• Familiarity with the NQCP mission and its data-driven elements
• Experience with data management for a large research team
• Proficiency in HPC management and Slurm

Terms of salary and employment:

The employment and salary are made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Employment will be as academic officer or special consultant. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working hours are 37 hours per week on average and the working hours are flexible. The position is limited until 31 December 2029.

Appointment will be subject to receipt of a security clearance.
