Scientist – Postdoctoral Researcher for CRL AMS Full-time

The of Nuclear Physics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, in accordance with Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, as amended by Act No. 420/2005 Coll. and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences, announces a selection procedure for the position of Scientist or Postdoctoral Researcher.

The Nuclear Physics Institute with its long tradition of nuclear research in Řež, is part of the Czech Academy of Sciences and focuses primarily on experimental and theoretical nuclear physics, including applied research.

We are the CRL radiocarbon laboratory at the Nuclear Physics Institute, equipped with an accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) system, and we are the only laboratory of its kind in the Czech Republic. Our equipment also includes other analytical and laboratory instruments. In this area, we can compare ourselves with the world’s leading radiocarbon laboratories. Who we are looking for: Scientist or postdoctoral researcher with experience in using AMS (Accelerator Mass Spectrometry) systems. Experience in related fields (physical chemistry, chemistry, analytical chemistry) is an advantage.

Required qualifications:

• professional experience in the use of AMS systems with at least two years of experience in the required field
• PhD or equivalent in a relevant field
• ability to communicate actively in English (both in spoken and written form)
• scientific writing skills
• ability to work independently and collaborate within national and international teams
• experience in submitting applications for domestic and international projects is an advantage

Key responsibilities:

• perform research based on analytical methods and related instrumentation
• develop new methods and analytical procedures related primarily to radiocarbon dating
• analyse and interpret experimental data
• responsibility for the operation and reliability of instruments and measured data.
• publish results in high-impact scientific journals and present research findings at domestic and international conferences
• collaborate with partner institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad

Place of work: Radiation Dosimetry Department, Institute of Nuclear Physics, Czech Academy of Sciences (premises of Bulovka University Hospital in Prague and research institutes in Řež near Prague)

Start date on April 1, 2026, or by agreement.
