Senior Lecturer in Distributed Large-scale Software Systems

The position is placed at the Department of Computer Science and will be part of the strategic research area ELLIIT, Excellence Center at Linköping – Lund in Information Technology, a partnership between Lund University, Linköping University, Blekinge University, and Halmstad University. The holder of the position is expected to contribute to ELLIIT's broader goals within research, doctoral education, collaboration, and dissemination.

The department of Computer Science conducts research in a number of areas such as embedded systems, graphics, programming languages, software technology and engineering, robotics, and artificial intelligence. The research environment is part of broad research programmes such as ELLIIT, WASP, and NextG2Com, with excellent opportunities for collaboration with other research groups both at Lund University and other Swedish universities.

The department offers a wide range of courses within the Engineering programs at Lund University, from introductory programming to specialized advanced courses and Master Thesis projects. The holder of the position is expected to give and further develop the master level course in Distributed Systems (EDAP25). We are looking for a person with broad knowledge in the field and preferably with experience from collaboration with or own previous employment in industry.

Subject: Distributed Large-scale Software Systems

The subject of the position is the field of Distributed Large-scale Software Systems, including container architectures, distributed databases, and stream-processing software frameworks. The focus is on improving software architecture and high-level programming of such systems, supporting properties such as robustness, security, privacy, efficiency, scalability, and flexibility.

Work duties include: research within the subject area, teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies, supervision of degree projects and doctoral students, actively seeking external research funding, collaboration with industry and wider society, administration related to the work duties listed above, involvement in the management of the department and respective administrative tasks.

Qualification requirements: appointment to senior lecturer requires that the applicant has a PhD or corresponding research competence or professional expertise considered important with regard to the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve. Demonstrated teaching expertise. Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means, unless there are valid reasons.

Assessment criteria: when assessing the applicants, special importance will be given to research and teaching expertise within the subject, assessing research and teaching expertise equally.

Additional requirements: very good oral and written proficiency in English. Significant documented research experience (e.g. from postdoc or doctoral studies) from another university/institute or relevant experience from industry/public sector. Publications in internationally leading conferences or journals in the area such as SIGMOD, VLDB, IPDPS, CIDR, EuroSys, IEEE TPDS, ACM SOSP, or Usenix OSDI. Collaborative skills, initiative and the ability to solve work tasks independently.

Other qualifications: documented experience of collaboration with researchers in other areas in computer science, or of interdisciplinary collaboration. Documented experience of development of reusable artifacts and software tools in connection to publication in the area. Documented experience from teaching courses in distributed software systems and/or databases.
