The Haida Gwaii Institute in the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Stewardship at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a part-time Sessional Lecturer position to teach HGSE 383 Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship in 2026 Summer Term 1.
Course Description
This course will focus on historical examples of ingenuity and innovation by Indigenous and non-Indigenous people blended with current theory, practice and application. Students will examine the relationships between culture, ingenuity, creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation through Indigenous and cross-cultural examples to understand and foster systems change; with a particular focus on Haida Gwaii. The course will offer learning opportunities that appeal to the heart as well as to the mind.
Job Description
Main duties include working with HGI Programs and Operations Manager for the course preparation, teaching online classes twice per week to undergraduate students, and providing feedback and grades on assignments. Course runs for six weeks from May 11th to June 17th 2026.
Candidates should have graduate level degree in business, a business-related field, or First Nations Studies; relevant teaching experience at the post-secondary level, ideally with experience teaching online courses; experience working with Indigenous communities, governments or organizations is an asset.
