General Notes: This is a grant-funded position and reassignment will be based upon performance, progress toward research goals and continuation of funding. Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship. Some travel within the state of Texas required.
Purpose: This position will review, abstract, and code clinical and/or educational records for autism and/or developmental disability (DD) surveillance after extensive training. They will participate in data quality checks, project meetings, and education/outreach efforts as needed.
Responsibilities:
Bachelor's Degree in public health, psychology, education, health information management, or other related field with at least 4 years of related experience. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and ability to learn new database systems, including REDCap. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling protected health information (PHI) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)-protected records. Strong reading comprehension and ability to interpret clinical and educational records. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and coding. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a high volume of records. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting project deadlines. Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback in a collaborative, peer-review environment. Values the contributions of others in the work environment. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Master's Degree in public health, psychology, education, health information management, or other related field with at least 2 years of related experience. Experience with REDCap or similar web-based data management platforms. Familiarity with autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, or related clinical/behavioral terminology. Prior experience with public health surveillance systems or epidemiological data collection. Knowledge of DSM-5 criteria or special education classification systems (e.g., Individualized Education Program (IEP)/504 documentation). Experience working in a health care, school, or research setting requiring HIPAA/FERPA compliance training
This job requires a class “C” operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
