The mission of the UCSF Sarcoma Initiative is to support the development of the next generation of cellular therapies to treat this disease. In the Roybal Lab, we engage in translational research in partnership with research groups at UCSF to develop cutting-edge engineered T cell therapeutics and prepare them for the clinic, as well as develop novel cell technologies for future therapeutic solutions.
We are seeking applications for a Specialist to contribute to early-stage pre-clinical development of novel T cell therapeutic circuits for the treatment of Sarcomas. This work will range from proof-of-concept studies to IND enabling studies for a phase I clinical trial. This is an excellent opportunity to learn cutting-edge engineered T cell cancer therapy from leading experts in the field and gain highly sought after pre-clinical development experience in the field of cell therapy.
The successful candidate will perform experimental work on protein engineering, primary human T cell culture, viral and non-viral transductions, and mouse tumor models. The candidate's main responsibilities will include: a) novel assay development, b) in-vitro T cell circuit design and validation, c) establishment of in-vivo tumor models, d) compiling pre-clinical results to support the designation of clinical vector design, and e) contributing to the in-vitro and in-vivo pharmacology characterization of therapeutic product candidates in collaboration with a process development team towards an IND filling.
The Initiative Research Specialist will work with other staff in the Roybal Lab and collaborators in developing the necessary assays, protocols and SOPs and execute the experimental work, data analysis and report their findings in presentations and progress reports.
Required Qualifications: Junior Specialist – Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience Assistant Specialist – Master's degree or a baccalaureate degree with 3 or more years of research experience Associate Specialist – Master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization Full Specialist – terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization Primary immune cell culture Tumor cell culture Flow cytometry Experimental design and data analysis Tumor and T cell injections Tumor growth measurements (bioluminescence or caliper) Collection of T cells and tumor cells from mouse blood, tissues, and tumors
Preferred Qualifications: Multi-colored flow cytometry and cell sorting experience T cell assay experience (ELISAs, proliferation, cytotoxicity by incucyte etc.) Human immune cell engineering with viral and non-viral approaches Experience contributing to translational projects and/or INDs Experience creating and giving data presentations
Applicants must apply online with a CV, and the contact information of 3 references. Candidates must have required qualifications by time of hire. Application materials must list pending qualifications.
See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000 – $194,800.
