Postdoctoral Fellow in lung stem cell biology, tissue repair, and chronic lung diseases
The Jones lab is seeking a highly-motivated and enthusiastic Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. scientist to join our team as a postdoctoral research fellow. We investigate the origins of lung disease, with a particular focus in stem cell biology and tissue regeneration. Our approach is to use cutting-edge tools such as single cell genomics, epigenomics, high-resolution microscopy, novel transgenic mouse models, 3D organoid in vitro models, and customized bioinformatics pipelines to pursue our research questions. For more information, please visit joneslunglab.github.io.
The Jones lab is enthusiastic to mentor and train all members of the laboratory. We develop individual training approaches to maximize the productivity and efficiency of your time in the laboratory. You will be provided with hands-on training in the lab, while being given space and freedom to develop your individual “niche”. Our goal is to provide you with the skillsets, resources, and mentorship to get you to the next stage of your career.
We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, including stem cell biology, biomedical engineering, cellular/molecular biology, bioinformatics, physiology, and similar fields.
Experience in specific skillsets or techniques are not required. But example skillsets and techniques that we typically use in the in the lab are:
· Mouse models of lung repair and regeneration
· Primary mouse and human cell isolation and culture of lung cell populations
· Common techniques in biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology
· Bulk and single cell genomics and analysis
· Tissue processing and staining
· Cell/tissue imaging techniques such as fluorescence and confocal microscopy
Qualifications and Requirements
· PhD in biology, biomedical engineering, physiology, or related fields
· Recent publications demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment
The work will be conducted within a vibrant and collaborative environment, with access to excellent core facilities within the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Carver School of Medicine, and the University of Iowa.
Maximum consideration will be given to candidates enthusiastic about science, with high research motivation and initiative towards independence.
Applicants should submit their CV, a cover letter containing a brief statement of their scientific/career interests and why you’re interested in the laboratory, and contact information of three references to Dr. Dakota Jones (dakota-jones@uiowa.edu).
