The project explores extreme light–matter interactions at the nanoscale, developing advanced theoretical models in direct connection with frontier experiments in infrared nanophotonics and nanoscale microscopy. The work will combine multiscale electromagnetic simulations and analytical modelling to interpret and guide advanced near-field optical microscopy, investigating molecular vibrations, phonons and unusual light–matter coupling regimes. Depending on the candidate’s interests, there will also be opportunities to develop expertise in quantum electrodynamics and first-principles calculations.
