Uppsala University, Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology, Faculty of Chemistry, Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory
The Department of Chemistry – Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 270 employees and has a turnover of 300 million SEK. At the department's six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering programs and master's programs.
Duties: The projects deal with the preparation of photoactive metal complexes and their application in catalysis of small molecule activation, and has organic chemistry, coordination chemistry and spectroscopy components. The systems will be characterized using traditional organic as well as electrochemical, photochemical and spectroscopic methods. The doctoral students will develop lanthanide-catalyzed transformations. They will synthesize ligands and their metal complexes, perform chemical and spectroscopic characterization of the complexes, and evaluate their photophysical and photochemical behavior. They will write research reports and publications and present their research results at departmental and group meetings as well as national and international conferences. The position will likely involve supervision of undergraduate students. The doctoral students' main tasks are to devote themselves to their research studies, which includes participation in research projects and postgraduate courses. The tasks may also include teaching and other departmental tasks (maximum 20%). The project will be partly carried out in collaboration with partners at Uppsala University.
Requirements: To meet the entry requirements for doctoral studies, the candidate must
The candidate must have:
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
Additional qualifications: Experience with coordination chemistry, photochemistry, catalysis, electrochemistry, or f-element chemistry are highly advantageous, as are original research publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
About the employment: The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 7. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 2026/10/01 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
