The Sebat laboratory at UC San Diego is recruiting postdoctoral positions in statistical genetics/data science working on the multifactorial genetics of complex psychiatric traits. These projects, funded as part of a large collaboration called the NIH Genes 2 Mental Health Network (https://genes2mentalhealth.com/), are harnessing the broad spectrum of genetic risk that can be captured by genome sequencing, including rare single nucleotide variants (SNVs), Structural Variants (SVs), tandem repeats (TRs), and polygenic scores. The G2MH is combining deep clinical characterization with whole genome sequencing to investigate how combinations of rare and common variation influence quantitative traits and determine risk for major psychiatric disorders such as autism and schizophrenia.
The Sebat Lab is a multidisciplinary team of computational scientists and molecular biologists working on fundamental problems in human genetics, genome technology and genetic therapies. All research is team-oriented and provides a supportive environment for graduate and postdoctoral trainees with regular interaction with PIs, senior staff members in computer science and collaborators. Graduates from the lab go on to tenure track positions in academia or comparable positions in the biotech industry. The scientific environment at UCSD and the surrounding biotech community is very active, stimulating and collegial. The San Diego area is an ideal one for creating a healthy work/life balance.
Qualifications for postdoc positions include a PhD in Statistics, Genetics, Computational Biology, Applied Math, Physics, Computer Science, or a comparable level of research experience in Statistical Genetics. Applicants should send via email a cover letter and CV, and contact information for three references. The cover letter should briefly describe your past and current research interests and how postdoctoral training in genetics could advance your career goals.
