The laboratory of computational chemistry, biochemistry and biophysics of the University of Sao Paulo (USP) invites applications for a FAPESP postdoctoral fellowship in molecular simulation.
Activities and context: Computationally investigate the energy coupling and inhibition mechanisms in mitochondrial respiratory complexes I, II, and III. For complex I, determine how protonation states are modulated by substrate occupancy and redox state, unraveling proton pumping pathways. For complexes II and III, map interactions of inhibitors used as agricultural pesticides and detail their potency, selectivity, and resistance mechanisms at the molecular level.
Techniques employed: Classical molecular dynamics, metadynamics, constant-pH dynamics, hybrid QM/MM simulations, and generative AI models.
The position is full-time for on-site work in the city of São Paulo (capital of São Paulo State). The fellowship provides a monthly stipend of BRL 12,570, plus a FAPESP research fund (equivalent to 10% of the annual stipend) to be used for travel, conferences, and other research-related expenses. The stipend is tax-free and highly competitive, comparable to that of assistant professors in Brazil, offering a high standard of living. The initial appointment is for two years and may be extended subject to project progress.
São Paulo (and USP) are diverse and vibrant environments. The city is the largest and the foremost economic and scientific center in Brazil, offering unique opportunities for professional and cultural growth.
