The Department of Biology at The University of Scranton invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology position beginning in August 2027. We seek candidates whose research bridges fundamental biological discovery and translational science to advance understanding of the mechanisms of normal biological function and disease. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, cellular and molecular biology, physiology, omics, and/or other preclinical biomedical disciplines. Our research programs embrace scientific investigation and understanding of all biological core concepts including evolution; structure and function; information flow, exchange, and storage; pathways and transformations of energy and matter; and systems.
Essential Duties
The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s teaching mission by offering courses in general, cellular, and molecular biology, physiology, and/or related areas appropriate to departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise. Faculty members are encouraged to develop and teach advanced courses aligned with their research expertise and scholarly interests. A successful candidate will establish an undergraduate-centered research program that investigates fundamental biological mechanisms relevant to human health, while providing meaningful research opportunities for undergraduate students. The successful candidate will also contribute service to the department, university, and broader community.
Minimum Education Requirements
A Ph.D. is required by the start date; postdoctoral experience is preferred. Experience and commitment to teaching undergraduates and the capability to develop an active research program that involves mentoring undergraduates is expected.
