The Reinke lab in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto is seeking a skilled and experienced technician to support our research program. The ideal candidate will have substantial hands-on experience and strong technical proficiency in C. elegans microinjection and plasmid cloning. Familiarity with computational protein structure and design tools such as AlphaFold and BindCraft is a plus. Candidates at any level (B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D.) are encouraged to apply. This is a one-year position, with the possibility of renewal and an ideal start date of August or September 2026. Interested candidates should send a CV, including contact information for 2-3 references, and a brief cover letter describing previous research experience and relevant technical skills. We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply.
Our lab is interested in the evolution of parasites and immunity. We use C. elegans and related nematodes as model hosts to investigate infections by natural pathogens including microsporidia, bacteria, and fungi. Microsporidia are prevalent intracellular eukaryotic parasites that have the smallest eukaryotic genomes (some with only ~2000 proteins!) and are a fascinating system for exploring pathogen evolution. Recent work from the lab has been on identifying genetic variants that cause resistance or sensitivity to microsporidia infection, an immune response against microsporidia that is transferred between generations, a host factor that facilitates microsporidia cell invasion, inhibitors of microsporidia proliferation and invasion, and how bacteria influence microsporidia infection. We use a variety of experimental and computational research methods including genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, cell biology, and biochemistry.
Our lab aims to provide a supportive and nurturing environment to allow lab members to achieve their scientific and career goals. We are part of a dynamic department of over 100 research groups working in a variety of diverse areas with many opportunities for collaborations. Please see our website for more information on our group and the research that we do: https://www.reinkelab.org/
