Post-Doctoral Fellow in Immunology and Hematopoietic Malignancies, Vardhana Laboratory Full-time

Understanding and reversing T-cell dysfunction remains a major challenge for both adult and pediatric patients with hematopoietic cancers, such as leukemia and lymphoma.  We are seeking a post-doctoral associate with a strong background in immunology and/or computational biology to join the Vardhana laboratory to explore immune dysfunction in hematologic malignancies with a particular emphasis on how B-cell depletion impacts naïve T-cell homeostasis.  This work will be carried out within the Vardhana laboratory in the Zuckerman Research Building at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as part of an ongoing collaboration with laboratory of Chrysothemis Brown, MBBS, PhD, whose laboratory has expertise in studying how environmental signals regulate immune cell homeostasis and development.

This represents an exciting opportunity for motivated candidates with interests in basic immunology as well as cancer immunotherapy to contribute their skillset in immunology while gaining expertise in computational biology, cell biology, and metabolomics.

Responsibilities

• Design and perform experiments using standard immunology techniques (mouse models of infection and cancer including adoptive transfer experiments, tissue processing, multi-parametric flow cytometry, cell sorting, preparation of libraries for bulk and single-cell RNA and ATAC sequencing) with the goal of understanding how B-cell malignancies and B-cell targeting therapies impact T-cell biology
• Develop expertise in computational biology with specific attention to analyzing single-cell genomics data from both mouse models and primary patient samples
• Maintain detailed records of experimental protocols and data in laboratory notebooks
• Keep current with key biology publications related to ongoing projects
• Mentor/lead/manage other cell and molecular biology team members

Job Requirements/Qualifications

• PhD degree in Cell biology, Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or a related field of biology is required.
• Extensive mouse handling experience is essential, including but not limited to: animal husbandry, adoptive transfers, minor surgical procedures, and organ isolation
• Experience with multi-parametric flow cytometry is highly desirable
• Strong working knowledge of cell biology and immunology is essential, expertise in hematopoietic cancers is a plus, but not required.
• A data science/computational background is highly desirable but not required; however, willingness to independently develop expertise in data science including analysis of single-cell RNA and ATAC sequencing data is essential
• Extensive experience with some of the following cell and molecular biology techniques is desirable but not essential: mammalian cell culture, PCR, RT-PCR, cloning, viral transduction, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, protein expression, immunoprecipitation, SDS-PAGE, and Western blots
• Experience with metabolomics assays is not required but interest in developing a fund of knowledge in cellular metabolism and metabolomics assays is highly encouraged
• The candidate should be scientifically motivated, detail-oriented, capable of independently conceiving, conducting and critically analyzing their own innovative research
• The candidate must be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
