Assistant Professorship In Human-Centred Computing

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for an Assistant Professorship (non-tenure track) in Human-Centred Computing. The expected start date is January 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter.

We are looking for candidates with broad skills in human-computer interaction and related fields, and a proven track record of influential research, including publications at the highest level, such as ACM CHI, CSCW and TOCHI. We are open to different specialities within HCI, but are particularly interested in candidates whose skills would complement and strengthen the current focus of the Human-Centred Computing (HCC) section. This includes those with a track record in human-centred AI, VR, healthcare, design, theory, critical perspectives, or human-robot interaction.

The position involves contributing to and strengthening the HCC section, including teaching and course responsibility for relevant BSc and MSc courses within Computer Science, as well as co-teaching on the Communication and IT bachelor's and master's programmes.

Fostering a research environment of the highest excellence, and one in which people from diverse backgrounds can thrive, is a high priority for the department. The HCC section was recently ranked as Europe's top HCI research centre with research that spans collaborative technologies, human-centred AI, AR/VR, health informatics, AI in education, and digital fabrication. As part of HCC, you will join a leading department with strong research sections across computer science, and you can expect close collaboration with other sections, in particular the Section for Software, Data, People and Society (SDPS). The section also co-organises two centres within artificial intelligence, the SCIENCE AI Centre and the Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence, and the post will support collaboration around AI and human-centred AI through these centres.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory, but documented teaching qualifications and experience will be taken into account.

Furthermore, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experience:

• You have a PhD in HCI or a related field.
• You are a high achieving researcher and have published extensively in top ranked HCI conferences and journals, including ACM CHI, TOCHI, CSCW, UIST etc.
• You have a strategy for career development, including attracting research funding, mentoring colleagues and positively contributing to the broader research field and society.
• You have an active interest in the latest developments in HCI, including interactions and use with AI systems, development of new research methods in HCI, and new theories of interaction and technology adoption.
• You have pre- and postgraduate teaching experience, including project supervision.
• Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
• Excellent English skills written and spoken.

Terms of employment

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 4 years. The start date is 1 January 2027

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 39,900 DKK/approx. 5,300 EUR (August 2026 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18,07 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2025.
