UCL Careers supports our students and recent graduates to build their futures, make informed career decisions and successfully navigate an increasingly complex global labour market. This role sits within our dedicated careers provision for the UCL School of Management, one of the UK's leading business and management schools.
Our postgraduate students have ambitious career goals, with many looking to build careers across technology, data, AI, business analytics and marketing science. We are looking for a careers professional with strong knowledge of these areas who can help them understand the opportunities available, develop their skills and translate their academic experience into successful careers.
As Careers Consultant: Technology & Analytics Specialist, you will be our lead careers specialist for students interested in careers across Technology, Data Science, AI, Business Analytics and Marketing Science. You will work primarily with postgraduate students, joining a collaborative team of Careers Consultants and Employer Engagement professionals to design and deliver a comprehensive careers and professional development programme.
Through workshops, group sessions, one-to-one coaching and application support, you will help students explore their options, develop their career management skills and prepare effectively for competitive recruitment processes. You will bring specialist insight into the technology and analytics labour market, helping students understand different career pathways and the skills employers are looking for. This could include careers such as Data Scientist, Data Engineer, Business Intelligence Analyst, Business Analyst, Product or Customer Insights Analyst, Quantitative Analyst and Analytics Consultant.
A key part of the role will be keeping close to developments in the sector. You will use labour-market information, graduate outcomes and student insight to shape careers activity, while maintaining an up-to-date understanding of recruitment practices across technology, analytics, data and related areas. You will also build strong relationships with academic colleagues, employers and other stakeholders, working collaboratively to embed relevant employability support across the School.
Our students are highly international and pursue careers across the UK and major global graduate markets, so you will also help them understand how recruitment practices and opportunities differ internationally. Please note this role is offered on a full-time basis with hybrid working available. As a student-facing role, attendance on campus (Canary Wharf School of Management) is required for currently a minimum of one day per week during term-time but may be more according to workload and business need.
You may already be working in university careers or employability and have developed specialist expertise supporting students pursuing careers in technology, data or analytics. Alternatively, you might bring experience from recruitment, talent development, coaching or industry and be looking for an opportunity to use that expertise to support the next generation of talent. You will have a strong understanding of careers and recruitment across Technology and Data/Analytics, gained either through professional experience in these areas or through substantial experience supporting similar cohorts within a university or business school. You will understand the rapidly evolving graduate market for areas such as AI, machine learning, big data and data science, and be able to explain how different roles fit across the analytics lifecycle – for example, the differences between a Data Scientist, Data Engineer and Business Analyst.
Just as importantly, you will enjoy working with people. You will be able to build rapport with students from a wide range of backgrounds, provide effective one-to-one careers coaching and turn specialist knowledge into engaging and accessible careers education for larger groups. You will be confident building relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, comfortable using evidence and data to evaluate the impact of your work, and able to manage projects and competing priorities effectively. You will also be curious about new approaches and technologies and keen to continue developing your own professional knowledge. Knowledge of technical recruitment methods such as coding assessments, case interviews and portfolio reviews, or familiarity with tools such as SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, Google Analytics or Salesforce, would be valuable but is not essential. A professional qualification in careers and employability is also desirable; we welcome applications from candidates without one who are willing to work towards an approved qualification once in post. If you are passionate about helping people navigate careers in technology and analytics, and would enjoy combining specialist labour-market knowledge with coaching, careers education and relationship building, we would be delighted to hear from you.
