Postdoctoral Researcher (Female Only)

The RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science is seeking a few postdoctoral researchers. In principle, postdoctoral researchers are defined as those who obtained a doctoral degree no more than five years ago.

The successful postdoctoral researchers are expected to set and promote their own research projects of theory, experiments, instrumentation development, or applied research related to the following research fields:

• Upgrade of the RI Beam Factory research infrastructure including BigRIPS in-flight separator, SAMURAI spectrometer, the beamline detectors and the data acquisition system
• Experimental studies on nuclear reactions and dynamical phenomena in nucleon many-body systems
• Experimental studies on nuclear structure at RIBF, and interdisciplinary research using particle beams
• Studies on production, nuclear and chemical properties of superheavy elements
• Structure and reaction of nuclei, atoms and molecules and hadrons from view point of few-body problem
• Understanding of nuclear structure and reactions, including unstable nuclei, based on nuclear many-body theories
• Experimental study of three-body nuclear forces
• Studies of hadronic and nuclear systems using meson beams or TES detectors
• Genome and epigenome engineering and control of biological functions using heavy-ion beams
• Production and application studies of radioisotopes at RIBF
• Multiscale nuclear physics research linking R&D related to the EIC with research conducted at other accelerator facilities such as RIBF

They will be assigned to one of the following groups and laboratories at the Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science according to the research topics they have chosen:

If there are any changes in job description during the contract period or upon contract renewal to the extension described above, it will be made within the scope of each job description determined at the time of hiring. During the term of the contract or at the time of contract renewal, for example, the work of a person engaged in research project (1) cannot be changed to (2) (i.e., a change in the number of the research project will not be made).

The candidate should possess a doctoral degree in relevant fields, or be a prospective PhD candidate who is scheduled to obtain a doctoral degree before the first day of work. Applicants are not required to have any experience in research and development related to the research topics listed in the job description section. Able to start work in FY 2027 (April 1, 2027 to March 31, 2028).

Work location: RIKEN Wako Campus (2-1 Hirosawa, Wako, Saitama 351-0198). RIKEN may order the employee to change work locations, if necessary.

Salary and benefits: A one-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, to a maximum of five years from the initial date of hire. Salary will be an annual salary based on experience, ability, and performance, and will consist of a base salary and a variable salary. The variable salary will be determined each fiscal year based on experience, ability, and performance. Discretionary work, commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied. The total amount of monthly discretionary work allowance and monthly salary at the time of hiring will be 382,610 JPY or more.

RIKEN has a telecommuting system, but this position requires attendance at the work location. Therefore, the telecommuting system is not available for this position, in principle.

Days off include public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan. 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day. Paid leave includes annual paid leave (up to 20 days depending on the month of employment), special paid leave (caring for a sick child, family nursing care, etc.), and work life balance holidays (up to 7 days depending on the month of employment). There are also additional leave systems such as maternity leave, childcare leave, and family nursing care leave. Smoking is entirely prohibited on site. These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations. Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai).
