Life & Mind Building, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3EL
We are seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician in Plant Biology to join a dynamic research team working on chloroplast transformation and photosynthesis phenotyping. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative plant science research in a collaborative academic environment. This post is full time (although applications to work a minimum of 50% of full time are welcome) and available immediately.
You will support the smooth running of laboratory and plant growth facilities, including preparing media, managing reagents and seed stocks, and maintaining plant growth spaces. You will apply basic molecular biology techniques (e.g. DNA isolation, PCR), assist with experimental design, and adapt protocols to test hypotheses. The role also involves collecting, analysing, and presenting scientific data, contributing to publications, and preparing materials for teaching demonstrations and outreach activities.
You will be educated to at least A-level or equivalent qualification in science, and have knowledge of relevant techniques. You should have practical experience in tissue culture and fundamental molecular biology techniques, along with the ability to follow and adapt experimental protocols. Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work collaboratively and support a multidisciplinary team. Knowledge of plant hormone signalling mechanisms and laboratory best practices is expected.
The University of Oxford is committed to equality and valuing diversity. All applicants will be judged on merit, according to the selection criteria.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Monday 6 July 2026. Interviews are likely to be scheduled for mid-July.
