Lecturer Or Senior Lecturer In Cyber Security And Software Engineering

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) to join the Cyber Security and Software Engineering group. This teaching and research position will contribute to a vibrant, ambitious, and collaborative academic environment that values rigorous scholarship, innovative teaching, and meaningful industry and community engagement. Working closely with colleagues in EECS and the UQ Cyber Research Centre, you will help shape the next generation of cyber security and software engineering professionals while advancing impactful research aligned with UQ's purpose of creating change together.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Teaching: Develop, coordinate and deliver high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses across programming, cyber security, software engineering and related areas; engage in innovative curriculum design; assess and support students in line with University teaching and learning standards.
• Research: Establish and sustain a high‑quality research program in cyber security, software engineering, or both; contribute to collaborative research projects; seek, obtain and manage competitive research funding; and publish in leading journals and conferences.
• Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise Honours and Higher Degree by Research students; contribute to researcher development through mentoring, supervision training, and leadership; and support the recruitment, onboarding and development of research staff.
• Citizenship and Service: Build partnerships with industry, government and professional bodies; contribute to internal service roles and decision‑making; mentor colleagues and students; and consistently uphold UQ's values and commitment to inclusion and wellbeing.

Academic Level B (Lecturer):

• Completion of a PhD in computer science or in a relevant field, specialising in cyber security, computer engineering or software engineering.
• Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours, or postgraduate level, with experience in teaching programming, software engineering, or cyber security.
• Experience in course coordination and contribution to the development and continuous innovation in curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.
• A developing national reputation and track record of impactful research with publications in reputed refereed journals and at top conferences in the field.
• Evidence of contributions towards seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.
• A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
• Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

Academic Level C (Senior Lecturer):

• Completion of a PhD in computer science or in a relevant field, specialising in cyber security, computer engineering or software engineering.
• Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate level, with experience in teaching programming, software engineering, or cyber security.
• Experience in course coordination and leadership in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.
• An established national reputation and strong track record of impactful research with publications in reputed refereed journals and at top conferences in the field.
• Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.
• An established track record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
• Demonstrated leadership and strong contributions in internal and external service roles.
