The UCL Division of Psychiatry, located within the Faculty of Brain Sciences, is a world-renowned centre of excellence in mental health research. Our mission is to improve mental health through cutting-edge research and education. The post-holder will form an integral part of the Division's professional services team and will oversee all operational aspects of the Division's activities as currently structured with emphasis on Finance and RIS as well as but not limited to, oversight of the more complex HR operations.
The post-holder will work closely with the Division Manager (DM) and provide cover in their absence.
The post-holder will be proactive in ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services supporting all aspects of the Division's day-to-day operations, especially finance, research and enterprise activities, liaising with Faculty, School and UCL teams as appropriate. This includes managing the Division's budgeting and forecasting process, overseeing the approval of research grants and contract proposals, recruitment of staff and students and management of space, facilities and other resources in line with UCL policies and procedures and as directed by the Division Manager.
The post-holder supports the Division Manager in implementing strategic plans, in monitoring the performance of the Division and provides input on strategic and institutional matters that impact the Division.
The post-holder will promote good working practices throughout the Division and will be responsible for taking the lead on developing and evolving relevant policies and procedures.
The post-holder will have experience of running an operational unit in a large organisation or be educated to degree level with substantial relevant experience.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in administration and management within a research intensive Higher Education Institution, and understanding of key factors affecting the sector. The post-holder will have demonstrable experience of effective financial planning and budgetary management and use of management information and performance tools and experience of leading change management, influencing and problem solving. The successful candidate will have team leadership and motivational skills with a sound understanding and enjoyment of line management and development of staff.
