An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Integral Membrane Proteins Group at the Centre for Medicines Discovery (CMD), University of Oxford. Reporting to Dr David Sauer, you will contribute to cutting-edge research focused on understanding the structure and function of human membrane proteins as antiviral targets. Working within a world-leading structural biology environment, you will have access to established high-throughput platforms for protein expression, purification, biochemistry and biophysics, structural biology, and mass spectrometry, supporting the discovery and characterisation of therapeutically important proteins.
You will play a key role in screening and chemoproteomic studies. Your responsibilities will include designing and carrying out cell-based target identification screens, cellular functional assays, and biochemical target engagement and validation. You will also design and execute experiments, undertake mutagenesis and comparative studies, analyse complex datasets, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication. The role offers extensive opportunities to collaborate with researchers across Oxford, academia, and the pharmaceutical industry, making strong communication and teamwork skills essential.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in structural biology, biophysics, biochemistry, or a related discipline. You will have experience in biochemistry, biophysics, chemoproteomics, or functional screening, together with the ability to independently manage research projects and associated activities. A strong publication record, appropriate to career stage, and the ability to communicate scientific findings through high-quality publications are essential.
