University College London (UCL) wishes to appoint a Research Fellow. The post holder will be based at The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction at the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, a world-leading faculty ranked #1 in the world for Built Environment studies and #1 in the UK for its research environment. The post holder will carry out research and programme administration within the Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction, consistent with the vision and mission of The School. This is a full-time role on a 1 year fixed-term contract, with an opportunity for extension subject to funding.
The successful applicant will be expected to bring a strong understanding of building design and construction processes, building physics, and sustainability assessment methods (including Life Cycle Assessment – LCA). They will have demonstrable experience in developing or applying innovative models, techniques, or methods such as AI-enabled modelling, digital twins, or BIM, alongside experience in analysing, interpreting, and disseminating research findings through reports, publications, and other academic outputs.
The appointee will hold a first degree and normally a PhD (or be near completion) in a relevant discipline (e.g. architecture, building engineering, civil engineering, digital architecture), with a focus on digital twin architecture or building digital modelling. They will be able to communicate complex information clearly to a range of audiences and show a proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary research teams. Strong organisational skills are essential, including the ability to plan and coordinate work, manage priorities, and use resources effectively.
The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to project delivery and coordination activities, engage with academic, industry, and policy stakeholders, and support knowledge exchange and impact aligned with the aims of the ZEBAI project. A commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and resilient working culture, in line with UCL's Ways of Working and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles, is essential.
