The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Karolinska Institutet consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of laboratory medicine to advance human health in both the short and long term. The department has close collaboration with Karolinska University Hospital and conducts advanced basic, clinical, and epidemiological research. It is one of the largest educational departments at Karolinska Institutet.

The Division of Clinical Immunology is currently seeking a highly ambitious and motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the research group led by Dr. Sidinh Luc. The research group investigates fundamental mechanisms regulating hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) function and heterogeneity, transformation of normal HSCs into leukemic stem cells and cellular and molecular drivers of leukemia development. The research integrates experimental models, human patient samples, and advanced sequencing technologies, with the aim to bridge basic biology with clinical translation.

Your Mission

As a postdoctoral researcher you will be responsible to drive research projects with the aim to unravel the mechanisms of leukemia development from diverse hematopoietic stem cells. You will work with animal models including transplantation experiments, human patient samples, high-throughput sequencing and omics approaches, as well as performing some bioinformatics analyses. Success in this role requires a strong desire and curiosity to explore basic research questions with translational potential. You are expected to contribute actively and positively to the research environment through collaboration, engagement, and supervision of students.

Entry Requirements

The candidate applying must have a PhD degree in biomedicine, molecular medicine, molecular biology, gene technology, immunology, stem cell biology or a related discipline. Expertise in some of the following areas is required: experimental hematology, transplantation models, advanced flow cytometry, sequencing based molecular biology (“omics”) and bioinformatics. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability and compatibility with lab members and the overall research group. Applicants must have excellent communication skills in English, be able to work independently in a self-driven manner, while being able to work collaboratively within the research group.

Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their merit in Sweden. A foreign researcher is a person living in another country who comes to Sweden with the intention of only staying in Sweden for all or part of their postdoctoral education at KI. Persons who are resident in Sweden and/or have carried out all or part of their academic education at KI or some other educational institution in Sweden cannot be considered for scholarships. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four-year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate, or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post-doctoral education.
