A permanent position as Professor of Epidemiology with focus on cardiovascular diseases. The position is located at the Department of Clinical Sciences in Malmö and is closely linked to the Strategic Research Area Epidemiology (Epidemiology for Health), led by Lund University in collaboration with Uppsala University.
It will not be possible to renegotiate this contract to become a combined contract.
The duties primarily involve research but also include teaching and participation in management duties at the Faculty of Medicine.
Lund University is well-positioned for epidemiological research thanks to its long-term commitment to EpiHealth (Epidemiology for Health) as a strategic research area for national and international excellence in epidemiology. In addition, Lund University has access to several large research databases with extensive phenotyping data and biobank samples, such as the Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, the Malmö Offspring Study, the Malmö Preventive Medicine Study, Men Born 1914, Healthy Ageing in Skåne (GÅS), the EpiHealth cohort, and the Swedish Cardiopulmonary BioImage Study (SCAPIS).
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct independent research at a very high national and international level in the field of epidemiology with focus on cardiovascular diseases. The position is intended to strengthen and develop strategically important research in cardiovascular epidemiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University.
Teaching and course development at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level is also an important part of the position.
The successful candidate is expected to be prepared to assume the role of research team leader at IKVM. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to take on other responsibilities normally associated with a professorship, such as administrative tasks, as well as internal and external elected positions. The professor will represent the field nationally and internationally, contribute to the development of excellence within the strategic research area EpiHealth, and engage with society at large.

Eligible for appointment as professor according to Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance is someone who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence.
The applicant must have completed a course in higher education pedagogy lasting at least five weeks. Should the appointee be assessed to have valid reasons for not having completed a five-week course in higher education pedagogy upon taking up the position, they must complete such a course within two years of taking up the position (see Lund University's Staff Regulations).

The applicant must demonstrate a very high level of scientific and teaching ability relevant to epidemiology with focus on cardiovascular disease. Special emphasis will be placed on scientific competence.
The applicant's academic ability is demonstrated by current, pioneering, and independent research activities at a very high international level.
Publications in international scientific journals, as well as national and international grants obtained through competition as principal investigator will be considered.
In addition, the applicant must demonstrate the ability to initiate and lead national and international research collaborations. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to contribute to future research developments. Future plans and visions will be considered. Recent and relevant experience in clinical research and collaboration is preferred.
The applicant must have demonstrated pedagogical expertise relevant to the subject area, including documented experience of teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, as well as supervision of students at these levels.
In addition, demonstrated ability in academic leadership, strategic development, and collaboration will be strongly considered. The applicant must demonstrate the ability and potential to lead and develop research activities. This will be demonstrated through documented leadership, such as management roles, elected office, leadership training, or leadership in research environments, interdisciplinary projects, or consortia. Leadership skills also include strong communication and collaboration skills, the ability to support the professional development of staff, and the ability to contribute to a positive working environment. Experience of leadership in an international context is an advantage, as is experience and a proven ability to carry out strategic development work in interdisciplinary research environments.
Emphasis will also be placed on skills related to participation in organizational development and external collaboration, as well as the ability to engage with the wider community. This will be demonstrated by experience and ability to communicate research results and to establish collaborations with researchers from different disciplines and relevant stakeholders outside academia. The ability to disseminate knowledge and to contribute to the translation of research results into society or clinical practice is an asset.
