The UCL Institute for Global Health (IGH) is at the heart of UCL's Grand Challenge of Global Health. The Institute's vision is for a world where international policy on global health is informed by world class research. IGH aims to support the development of robust solutions to aspects of the world's major global health challenges through scholarly outputs, education, public engagement, translational research and ultimately by influencing public policy and professional practice.
We are seeking a collaborative and self-motivated Research Assistant for an exciting opportunity to contribute to the racism, intersectionality and discrimination workstream of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Inequalities Challenge: Maternity Disparities Consortium.
The research carried out by the Consortium will focus on inequalities before, during and after pregnancy. The programme is underpinned by an innovative and transformative capacity building programme of career development awards and opportunities, linked and embedded within the consortium's research areas to support the next generation of researchers working to address maternity inequalities.
In this research Consortium we aim to provide evidence to reduce these inequalities. We will work with colleagues across the Consortium and country to improve care before, during and after pregnancy. We aim to both support staff directly and to ensure accountability mechanisms are in place to encourage organisations to tackle discrimination.
The postholder will be linked primarily to the racism, intersectionality and discrimination work. This cross-cutting workstream will support each theme in three distinct ways:
1. systematic application of an intersectionality action matrix during study design and conduct to reach intended populations, alongside systematic application of anti-racism principles in intervention refinement/ implementation;
2. work collaboratively with themes to develop tailored educational resources to ensure anti-discrimination approaches are taken in intervention delivery for specific intervention components;
3. design an accountability framework that is comprehensive and adaptable between settings to reflect theme priorities for addressing racism, discrimination and intersectionality in intervention design and delivery.
