Research Assistant

The Department of Medical Cell Biology at Uppsala University is a strong and international research environment. The department employs more than 110 staff members, including approximately 25 doctoral students, 10 postdoctoral researchers, and 40 researchers, lecturers, and professors.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our research group and contribute to projects related to pancreatic beta-cell biology. The successful candidate will support ongoing research into the molecular mechanisms underlying beta-cell function and dysfunction in diabetes. The work involves advanced cell culture models, molecular biology techniques, and high-content imaging.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Maintenance, cultivation, and experimental handling of pancreatic beta cells.
• Performing immunostaining, immunoblotting, RNA and DNA isolation, and PCR.
• Conducting high-content imaging experiments and subsequent data analysis.
• Quantitative analysis of imaging data using ImageJ and CellProfiler.
• Accurate documentation of experiments and participation in scientific presentations.

The position involves both independent work and collaboration with other researchers in an international research environment.

Applicants must have:

• A Master's degree in Molecular Medicine, Biomedicine, Cell Biology, or a related field.
• Documented hands-on experience in the cultivation of pancreatic beta cells.
• Documented experience with standard cell and molecular biology techniques, including:
  • Immunostaining
  • Immunoblotting
  • RNA and DNA isolation
  • PCR
  • Cell imaging
• Good knowledge of image analysis using ImageJ and CellProfiler.
• Basic data analysis skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English skills.
