Research Assistant in Aerial Robotics

Applications are invited for a 24-month research assistant position in the field of Aerial Robots at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aarhus University, Denmark.

This is a 24-month position starting 1 December 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description

Research in this project involves a synergistic combination of intelligent control and aerial robotics for navigation in uncertain environment. You will be mainly responsible for implementation of machine-learning algorithms for unmanned aerial vehicles; validation of the developed methods via experimental tests; optimisation of the communication interface for aerial robots.

Your profile

Applicants should hold a master's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or similar. Required skills include experience with UAV control, concrete experience in mechatronics design, and practical and hands-on skills. Preferred skills include good programming skills in C++ or Python, working knowledge of ROS, and publication experience.

The Artificial Intelligence in Robotics (AiR) group, led by Dr Andriy Sarabakha, focuses on the intersection of control systems, computational intelligence and robotic vision with applications in guidance, control and automation of aerial vehicles.

Application procedure

Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment.
