The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. Our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.
The research group of Dr Claudia Kutter invites applications for a Research Assistant position (experimental or experimental/computational) in the field of RNA biology and regulatory transcriptomics.
The Kutter Lab is at the forefront of uncovering the molecular mechanisms by which regulatory RNAs shape gene expression and cellular responses in health and disease. By integrating cutting-edge approaches in RNA biology, genomics, transcriptomics, and CRISPR-based technologies, the lab investigates fundamental principles of gene regulation across diverse biological systems.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and collaborative team working at the interface of chromatin biology, RNA regulation, functional genomics, and genome engineering. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative research projects, develop expertise in state-of-the-art methodologies, and engage with a vibrant international research community.
As a key member of the lab, the postholder will apply, optimize and integrate transcriptome-wide profiling approaches, including bulk and single-cell sequencing, together with CRISPR-based genome engineering and biochemical, molecular, and cellular biology techniques. The research will focus on understanding how RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) coordinate the functions of regulatory RNAs during cell differentiation and disease progression, and how they interact with other cofactors in mammalian systems. Experimental models will include diverse cell lines as well as mouse and human tissues.
The postholder will play a leading role in project design and management, data generation, analysis and interpretation, and the implementation of reproducible research practices. They will actively contribute to research discussions, collaborate with team members and national and international partners, and participate in the general activities of the group. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate scientific findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences. The ability to thrive in a highly interdisciplinary and international research environment, together with a commitment to continuous professional development, is essential.
The postholder will benefit from the Kutter Lab's extensive expertise in transcriptome-wide regulation and functional genomics. The lab combines next-generation sequencing technologies, including bulk and single-cell approaches, with high-throughput genetic screening and the development of innovative computational and experimental methods. The successful candidate will also benefit from close interactions with computational and experimental research groups at the Karolinska Institute, Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), and a broad network of national and international collaborators. Numerous training opportunities are available through on-campus courses, summer schools, and specialized workshops.
The laboratory is located at SciLifeLab on the Karolinska Institute campus in Stockholm. SciLifeLab provides a world-class research environment with state-of-the-art instrumentation and core facilities and hosts one of Europe's largest sequencing infrastructures. A collaboration between the Karolinska Institute, the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm University and Uppsala University, SciLifeLab brings together researchers from diverse disciplines, creating a unique environment at the interface of basic biology, genomics, bioengineering, drug discovery, and translational medicine.
We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in transcriptomics, molecular biology, genetics and/or biochemistry.
In addition to the above requirements for the position:
