We are looking for a postdoctoral research associate in the Computational Cardiovascular Science Group at the Department of Computer Science. The post-holder will report directly to Professor Alfonso Bueno-Orovio and will work within the context of the UK/EU SMASH-HCM project, as part of an international, multi-institutional and cross-disciplinary team involving world-experts in clinical and experimental cardiac electrophysiology.
The overall project aims to develop computer models and perform high performance computing studies of the human heart to better understand structural heart disease, and in particular the deadly inherited heart condition known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). The post-holder will develop efficient cardiac digital twin models of human ventricular function in HCM, based on multi-modality magnetic resonance and electrocardiographic studies from patients, and conduct scientific computing studies using the personalised models to investigate risk stratification in HCM. The overarching goal is to enable near-real-time risk assessment in inherited heart disease, bringing digital twin technologies closer to clinical workflows.
What We Offer
The post-holder will work onsite in the Department of Computer Science buildings in central Oxford, however remote (within the UK) and flexible working can be considered.
Diversity
Committed to equality and valuing diversity.
Application Process
You will be required to upload a supporting statement and an up-to-date CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must clearly demonstrate how you meet each of the essential selection criteria listed in the job description. Applications that do not include a supporting statement or CV, or fail to address the criteria in sufficient detail, will not be considered.
While we recognise the value of AI tools in assisting with application preparation, submissions that are clearly AI-generated without personalisation or insight will be rejected. It's crucial that your application reflects your own experiences and understanding of the role.
The closing date for applications is noon on 8 July 2026. Interviews are expected to be held in July.
