Research Engineer in Cell-Based Assays and High-Content Imaging (Phenomics)

This position is part of the Uppsala node of the Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden unit at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). You will work in the unit to establish and offer high-quality morphological profiling services, as well as small molecule screening. The position is placed at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences located at the Biomedical Center (BMC), Uppsala University, where you will work closely with a team of biologists, data scientists, and engineers in close collaboration to the Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics research group, to enable chemical biology and drug discovery innovations.

Your primary responsibility will be to independently plan, execute, and troubleshoot cell-based experiments, including routine cell culture, assay development, and high-content phenomics experiments. You will operate and maintain laboratory instruments, contribute to quality control, and support the continuous development of our experimental platform. If you have experience with data analysis from biological experiments, you will also have opportunities to contribute to downstream image and data analysis workflows.

Qualification requirements:

• Degree in cell biology, biomedicine, biotechnology, or related field
• Minimum 2 years hands-on experience with cell culture and quantitative cell-based assays
• Ability to independently plan, execute and troubleshoot cell-based experiments in multi-well plates
• Experience operating and maintaining laboratory instruments
• Experience with fluorescence microscopy or high-content imaging
• Organized, detail-oriented team player with strong collaborative skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English

Desirable/meritorious:

• MSc/PhD in cell biology, biomedicine, biotechnology, or related field
• Experience with high-throughput or automated instrumentations, including washing/dispensing and liquid handling platforms
• Familiarity with image analysis software (e.g. CellProfiler, Cellpose)
• Experience from drug screening assays
• Experience with toxicology or safety pharmacology assays
• Experience with Python for data analysis
