Research Fellow

We are seeking a collaborative and self-motivated research assistant/fellow for an exciting opportunity to contribute to evaluating education and long-term health outcomes for children with Hirschsprung disease, using ECHILD and the GOSH DRE. The postholder will have a strong foundation in statistical analysis and epidemiological approaches, and experience of analysing longitudinal data. They will join a team conducting quantitative research via an NIHR Research for Patient Benefit award to quantify the difference in clinical/academic attainment trajectories and school support up to age 16, and hospitalisations and mortality into adulthood, between children with Hirschsprung Disease and healthy peers. The salary offered in this post is £45,103 – £49,943 per annum and is funded until 30/09/2028 in the first instance.

You will hold a MSc qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as epidemiology, statistics, public health, health informatics, data science or demography, alongside a doctoral degree or equivalent research experience. You will have a strong foundation in epidemiological and statistical research methods, with demonstrable experience in analysing longitudinal data and working with large-scale administrative health datasets. You will bring expertise in data linkage approaches, management of complex datasets, and handling missing data, as well as a clear understanding of data privacy and security considerations when working with sensitive records. You will be proficient in statistical programming using software such as Stata or R, and capable of delivering high-quality, reproducible research leading to publication. In addition, you will have excellent organisational skills and a methodical, detail-oriented approach to your work. Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to present complex scientific findings clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. You will be a collaborative researcher, able to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including academic colleagues, data providers, external partners and members of the public, while also demonstrating initiative, self-motivation and a commitment to high standards in research and the UCL Ways of Working.
