This post-doctoral position, funded by a grant from the Leverhulme Trust, will involve analysing the responses of pollinator species to interactive effects of land use, agricultural intensification and climate change, using new and existing collations of biodiversity data and advanced statistical analysis. The research will also involve assessing the link between changes in pollinator biodiversity and wild plant and crop plant productivity. The research will be written up as scientific papers and presented at national and international conferences. The role will also involve a small amount of assisting with the administration of the project, such as helping to organize project meetings and fulfilling annual project reporting requirements. The project to which this position contributes is a collaboration between the Centre for Biodiversity & Environment Research and the Institute of Global Health at UCL, and the appointed post-doc will be working in close collaboration with a post-doc in the Institute for Global Health.
This is a fixed-term role until 23rd April 2029, in the first instance. Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (salary £38,357 – £41,005 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis. We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible. This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site. This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff. Please visit https://www.ucl.ac.uk/human-resources/conditions-service-research-teaching-and-professional-services-staff for more information.
The successful candidate will have experience of conducting robust scientific research in the fields of biodiversity or ecology more generally, and a track record of publishing scientific results in peer-reviewed journals. You must hold (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in biodiversity, ecology or a related field. You will have experience of statistical data analysis in R and the use of coding to automate analysis. You are also expected to have excellent communication skills, with evidence of oral presentation of scientific results at conferences or similar. You will need to be able to work independently as well as part of a small team of researchers, and to manage collaboration between the two units involved in the project.
