UCL's Department of Computer Science (CS) is a top-ranked Computer Science Department in the UK. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) evaluation, UCL Computer Science was ranked second in the UK for research power and first in England. The post is held within the Programming Principles, Logic and Verification (PPLV) research group.
The post is held in connection with the ARIA Safeguarded AI programme project “Data-Parallel Proof Checking for Monoidal Theories”, led by Professor Fabio Zanasi within the Programming Principles, Logic and Verification (PPLV) group at UCL. The post holder will strengthen the Metacat proof-checking core and develop a reinforcement-learning theorem-proving prototype, while continuing research on monoidal theories and diagrammatic proof systems, contributing both software and theoretical outputs to the Safeguarded AI platform.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field, with research expertise in category theory / monoidal categories and string diagrams, and strong software development skills applicable to building and maintaining research-grade proof-checking or verification software. Experience with proof assistants, automated reasoning, or reinforcement learning is desirable, as is a track record of scientific publication and presentation at international venues.
